Like many Americans, this LA Times blogger has an opinion on the foreign policy strategy of the US government:
U.S. military exertions in the Greater Middle East have long since satisfied the colloquial definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Those most deeply invested in the status quo – those benefiting from a condition of perpetual war – dismiss alternatives out of hand, arguing that no choice exists but to press on.
Unfortunately, after the author defines insanity, he follows with foreign policy suggestions that are similar to those that have been put forward before by well-meaning Americans who are not, and never will be, anywhere near a position of power within the US government.
Does the author actually believe the elites are going to suddenly follow his advice? Believing Washington DC can be tamed and saved – that is truly insane.
